Retention and Obliviscence as a Function of the Time

The experiments here described were meant to show how the retention of a series, once learned, depends upon the time which has passed since the learning. The series were relearned after intervals of from a third of an hour to a month, and the work saved in relearning was taken as the measure of what remained.

It will be seen from the table that the loss is at first very rapid. Within the first hour more than half of the original work must be done again; after a day, about two-thirds; after a month, somewhat less than four-fifths. The decline, rapid in the beginning, becomes afterwards exceedingly slow.

Whether the curve holds for material of other kinds — prose, verse, or series of numbers — is a question to which the later chapters return.

Does the assistant read my whole PDF?

Yes. In “Ask about”, choose a whole paper or select several papers to ask questions across them, with page citations that take you back to the source. You can also narrow the context to the current page, a selected passage or your highlights, and choose whether to include your note. A context meter shows how much fits; if your papers are too long to send together, select fewer papers or use highlights.

Which models can I use?

OpenAI’s GPT models and Anthropic’s Claude models. On the bring-your-own-key plan, chat runs on your own key.

What happens when the trial ends?

The assistant pauses until you choose a plan. Your notes, sources and highlights stay where they are.

When is the Mac app coming?
