Terms of use

These terms cover your use of Folio, the website at getfolio.work and the Folio apps. By joining the waitlist or using Folio, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Folio.

The private beta

Folio is in private beta. Access is by invitation, features may change or be removed, and there may be bugs or downtime. Please keep copies of anything important.

Your account

You’re responsible for your account and for keeping your sign-in details secure. You must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live. Tell us if you think someone else has accessed your account.

Your content

You own the notes you write and the materials you bring into Folio. You give us permission to store, process and display your content only as needed to run Folio for you — for example, to sync your workspace and to send the context you choose to an AI provider when you ask a question. Only add material you have the right to use, and respect the copyright and licences of the papers, pages and videos you import.

Acceptable use

Don’t use Folio to break the law, to infringe others’ rights, to upload malware, to probe or overload the service, or to get around plan limits or access controls. We may suspend accounts that do.

The AI assistant

Answers are generated by AI models and can be wrong or incomplete, even when grounded in your sources. Check important facts against the source before relying on them. Your use of the assistant is also subject to the policies of the AI provider involved (OpenAI or Anthropic), and, on the bring-your-own-key plan, to your own agreement with that provider.

Plans and payment

New accounts get a free trial. After it ends, the assistant requires a paid plan; your notes and sources stay available. Paid plans renew automatically until cancelled, and you can cancel any time from Plan & billing — cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Plans include a monthly usage allowance. Prices are shown before you subscribe and may change with notice.

Ending your use

You can stop using Folio at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or end access if you break these terms or if we stop offering Folio; where we can, we’ll give you notice and a chance to export your content.

Disclaimers and liability

Folio is provided “as is” during the beta, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that can’t be waived.

Changes

We may update these terms as Folio changes. If a change is significant, we’ll update the date above and tell you by email or in the app before it applies.
